Victims of what a judge has described as "chilling" sexual abuse by a Christchurch man have asked his name to be made public.
Dennis Aubrey Newell was sentenced this morning in the Christchurch District Court to eight years six months jail for offending against children in the 1970s and 1980s.
The abuse victims present in court this morning asked the judge to allow publication of Newell's name and name suppression was lifted.
ECPAT Child said the 70-year-old continues to deny the offending on children.
ECPAT Child Director Alan Bell applauds the sentence.
"This is a suitable sentence for a person who offended over a lengthy period. He should not get any less.
"He gets locked up for a few years but his victims have to live with the harm caused by his actions for a lifetime."
