Twenty-two New Zealand military veterans will attend Anzac Day commemorations at Gallipoli in Turkey this year.
Their names were chosen by ballot on Wednesday to form part of the official New Zealand contingent.
Anzac Day would mark the 95th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings, the start of an eight-month campaign that cost the lives of over 2700 New Zealanders, veterans' affairs manager, corporate and commemorations, Elaine Myers-Davies said on Wednesday.
"Anzac Day is a day when we recognise the sacrifice of the men and women of Australia and New Zealand who served in World War 1, and honour all returned servicemen and women."
Veterans chosen from the ballot were service people who had served past wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.
To be eligible for the ballot, veterans had to have a direct family link to someone who served with New Zealand troops on the Gallipoli campaign, Myers-Davies says.
The ballot was drawn by Defence Force chief Lieutenant General Jerry Mateparae under military police scrutiny.
Selected veterans would have to obtain a medical clearance from their GP. They would join a contingent made up of MPs, defence force personnel and students, Myers-Davies says.
