VC winner Corporal William Apiata is our most trusted person, filling the spot left vacant by the death of Sir Edmund Hillary.
Sports stars, politicians and convicted murderers appear on the annual Reader's Digest list of people New Zealanders supposedly trust the most.
Apiata was described by those surveyed as humble, courageous and self-effacing. He is followed by a top-10 crammed with seven sports stars including Peter Snell and Irene van Dyk.
Veteran rugby players outranked current players this year. John Kirwin debuted onto the list at sixth equal with many respondents citing his open and honest approach about his mental health.
And injured All Blacks captain Richie McCaw is up their with royalty - ranked 20th equal with the Queen.
In election year politicians did worse than ever - we ranked them lower than in any other year.
Prime Minister Helen Clark is the highest ranked politician at 66th place, one spot above convicted murderer David Bain at 67.
Clark has fallen eight places from last year but is ahead of National Party leader John Key, who slips two places to 68th.
However, Invercargill Mayor Tim Shadbolt leapt 11 places, moving up to 41.
The final three places on the list were claimed by Maori activist Tame Iti, convicted murderer Scott Watsoa and former Assistant Police Commissioner, Clint Rickards.
Most trusted professions
Firefighters are once again the most trusted profession with ambulance officers taking out second place, followed by pilots and nurses.
The top four positions in the survey have remained unchanged for the past three years.
Telemarketers are bottom of the list on number 40, joined by sex workers, politicians and car salesmen.
Police are 11th equal with dentists.
Childcare providers are a place ahead of locksmiths at 15th while bartenders and lawyers are tied for 27th place.
Most trusted brands
Obesity may be the word on everyone's lips, but so too is chocolate and ice-cream.
Cadbury has been voted New Zealand's most trusted brand for the fifth year running, followed by Tip Top for the third consecutive year.
Fisher & Paykel, Panadol, Sony and Toyota also make it into the top ten.
KiwiBank is the favoured bank at number 29 while Subway is the first fast food outlet to get a mention on the list at 32nd place.
