A prominent union has posted a film on YouTube to help workers cope with the recession.
The Engineering Printing and Manufacturing Union's short film Crunch Time features interviews with economists, the union's national secretary and union members.
The film gives background on how the recession came about.
It also gives advice on how employees can deal with their employers.
EPMU national secretary Andrew Little says workers should not buy into their employers' panic and they need to stand together to make sure the burden of the recession is shared fairly. He says a lot of employers are trying to panic workers in order to push through restructuring.
Little says the burden of the recession must be shared fairly and workers should not have to take all the pain for a crisis they did not cause.
He says in the case of cut-backs, workers should have time to get the right information and make sure every avenue is explored.
Little says workers should not have to pay for the mistakes of others and all alternatives need to be looked at before workers take a hit.
Little says business managers should make their contribution before they ask workers for it.
