Two men, arrested on Wednesday with the assistance of the Armed Offenders Squad (AOS), will appear in court to face charges in connection with the violent aggravated robbery of a Hamilton KiwiBank late last year.

Detective Sergeant Robbie Hermann of Hamilton CIB said the robbery in the Hamilton East suburb of Chartwell on December 5 was marked by "the high level of violence used by the offenders who threatened customers and bank staff alike with a firearm".

Waikato AOS on Wednesday secured two properties and a 21-year-old man was arrested at the first house while a 24-year-old man was arrested at the second.

A firearm police believe may have been used in the robbery was recovered.

Both men face charges of aggravated robbery.

Police were continuing their investigation and further arrests were possible, Hermann said.
