After all the devastation and loss of life there was a reason to smile and celebrate in Samoa on Saturday night as Samoa's favourite son David Tua rediscovered his own destructive powers to deliver some good news to his people.

It was pretty quiet outside in Tua's hometown of Faleatiu, but inside was a different story as the locals cheered him on during his big boxing fight against Shane Cameron.

There hasn't been a lot to cheer about lately, but the local village hero who lost his own auntie in the tsunami has punched his way back into their hearts.

"A lot of people lost their life, so I think when Tua's walking in the ring, I know he is with us," says one local.

The celebrations went countrywide.

In an Apia pub two brothers from Porirua have every reason to cut lose in Tua mania. They came to Samoa with death weighing heavily on their minds.

The Mareko brothers say they came to Samoa to find their families.

Fortunately they discovered their family alive in Lalomanu.

The fight provided a moment's happiness, but the Mareko brothers have been hit hard by the magnitude of the tsunami's destruction.

They say what they have seen has broken their hearts but they say Tua's fight gave the people of Samoa something positive to focus on.

In Faleatiu there is no doubt about that.
