Timeline: Antonie Dixon

Convicted murderer Antonie Dixon has died in prison. The following is a timeline of events surrounding Dixon since his crimes of January 2003.

January 22, 2003 - Dixon goes on a crime spree, attacking Renee Gunbie and Simonne Butler with a samurai sword and shooting James Te Aute dead with a homemade gun. He finally surrenders to police.

February 13, 2003 - A psychiatric report shows that Dixon is fit to stand trial.

March 24, 2005 - Dixon is found guilty of the murder of Te Aute, but not guilty of two charges of attempted murder in relation to Gunbie and Butler. However, he is found guilty of the lesser charge of grievous bodily harm. He is also found guilty of using a firearm against a police officer and kidnapping.

May 27, 2005 - Justice Judith Potter sentences Dixon to life imprisonment with a minimum non-parole period of 20 years at the Auckland High Court.

September 07, 2007 - The Court of Appeal overturns Dixon's convictions and orders a new trial, after ruling that the summing up by Justice Potter contained major errors of law.

June 23, 2008 - Dixon's re-trial begins in Auckland.

June 25, 2008 - The judge discharges the original jury in the re-trial. A new jury is selected.

August 01, 2008 - The jury in the re-trial returns a guilty verdict.

December 22, 2008 - Dixon pushes for a third trial amidst reports jurors in his re-trial conducted their own research on the internet.

January 17, 2009 - Dixon attempts to pull a makeshift weapon on his lawyer, Barry Hart.

February 05, 2009 - Dixon dies in Paremoremo Prison.
