More showers are forecast in Christchurch but nothing like the
massive downpour that led to flash flooding in parts of the city on
Sunday night.
Streets filled with water as the drain system failed to cope with
the torrential rain and and some motorists were left stranded as
the waters rose.
There were hailstones and around 1,000 lightning strikes.
The lightning strikes also caused several brief power outages
across the city.
The wind and warm temperature combined to create a rare
waterspout off Sumner.
Metservice had a severe thunderstorm watch in place till 9pm Sunday
for the east of the South Island, and after some great weather
around New Zealand many areas will see rain on Monday.
