Tens of thousands of dollars have been donated to the police victims of Napier gunman Jan Molenaar.
Senior Constable Len Snee was killed and Senior Constables Bruce Miller and Grant Diver badly injured by Molenaar before he turned the gun on himself.
Miller and Diver were released from Hawke's Bay Hospital last Friday while Leonard Holmwood, a friend and neighbour of Molenaar, who was shot when he went to the aid of the police officers, remains in hospital in a stable condition.
Police Association Hawke's Bay director Luke Shadbolt said tens of thousands of dollars had been donated to the police victims.
The money went into two funds. One was a mayoral fund for "casualties of the police shooting', including Holmwood, and the other account was a "police welfare fund' for the families of the police victims, he told Hawke's Bay Today.
Shadbolt said there was about $10,000 in the mayoral fund.
Police Association manager of welfare services Pete Hayes said the cheques were still being added up and they would soon have a clearer idea of the amount donated.
Shadbolt said there had been a "fantastic response' to the police fund.
"There have been some very generous donations made to the police welfare fund. Some people had made donations of $1000 or more. One in particular came from Wanaka."
Molenaar shot the police and civilian when he returned to his Chaucer Road home to find the officers doing a cannabis search.
Molenaar's partner, Delwyn Keefe, appeared in Napier District Court last week on charges of selling cannabis, offering to sell cannabis and possession of cannabis for supply and was remanded to reappear on June 3.
