Police say they were generally happy with the behaviour of Sevens fans after a more than 50,000 revellers descended on central Wellington last night.
Fifty two people were arrested overnight as thousands gathered for the annual street party in Courtney Place.
Inspector Simon Perry said the arrests were mostly for alcohol-fuelled disorderly and offensive behaviour and breaching the liquor ban.
Some inner-city bars were also forced to close by police at 4.30am, rather than the usual 6am in an attempt to clear the streets.
"Again, Police are very pleased with the behaviour of Sevens partygoers, despite the weather yesterday and the large numbers of people present at the stadium and throughout the city," he said.
Perry said the overall numbers of arrests and evictions from the stadium was down on last year.
Forty people were thrown out of Westpac Stadium last night, and a couple also tried to get out onto the pitch.
Organisers had to apologise to the Samoan team on Friday after a man ran onto the pitch and tackled one of their players during a match.
Extra security staff were called in as a result, but police say there were still people attempting to run onto the field last night.
