These school holidays there are plenty of kids doing all sorts of things, but none probably quite as extreme as one teenager who is taking her vacation on the high seas in a bid to become a world record holder.
Jessica Watson arrived at Marsden Cove Marina, near Whangarei on Tuesday having skippered her first transtasman crossing at the age of 15.
Her supporters believe she may have just become the youngest person to skipper a yacht from Australia to New Zealand.
Watson has even bigger aspirations.
This November she will attempt to become the youngest person ever to go around the world in a yacht all on her own.
"Every time I am out there I am a little bit more confident," she says.
