Police investigating the suspicious death of a Tauranga man are waiting on the results of a post mortem examination.

The body of the middle-aged man, whose identity has not been released, was found at a suburban Gate Pa house by a family member around 7am Tuesday.

Neighbours reported hearing a fight at the Watling St house overnight, says Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Turner, head of the Tauranga CIB.

He has appealed to anyone who saw or heard anything unusual on Monday night to come forward.

Police officers spent Tuesday examining the house and going door-to-door talking to neighbours.

The body was removed from the property and taken to Auckland for an autopsy on Tuesday evening.
