The Labour Party is allowing former Member of Parliament John Tamihere to rejoin.
The party's national executive accepted his application today at a meeting in Wellington.
The former Government minister was kicked out of the party in 2005 for using derogatory terms about women and homosexuals.
The move paves the way for him to run as a candidate in the 2014 election.
Tamihere said he had no intention of repeating the remarks that got him tossed out of the party seven years ago.
In a statement, the Labour Party's executive said Tamihere was "obliged, as is every member, to subscribe to the constitution and policy of the party".
