Porn king Steve Crow has dropped his bid to become president of the New Plymouth RSA.

Eyebrows were raised when Crow announced earlier this he was standing for the position but on Friday he said he had now withdrawn his application.

He will still stand for other positions on the club's executive committee.

He told the Taranaki Daily News he put his name forward for the presidency to prevent another person, he would not name, getting the job. But that person is now not standing.

Crow and his brother, Inglewood builder David Crow, bought the RSA's clubrooms off the financially floundering organisation last year for $1.9 million.

They eventually plan a multi-million dollar development at the site.
