A professor of religion expects there to be some kind of split in the Destiny Church following recent revelations.

A pastor heading the church left the Brisbane congregation after becoming unhappy with Brian Tamaki's demands and other people have spoken out about their bad experiences with the church.

Professor of religious studies at Victoria University Paul Morris says the nature of churches such as Destiny, make them prone to media attention.

He says the church will survive, but not without some kind of split.

Destiny Church released a statement on Sunday night saying the Brisbane congregation held a buoyant service on Sunday under new leadership.
