Small quake hits near Upper Hutt

A small earthquake has been recorded in the Hutt Valley region, near Wellington.

GNS Science says the magnitude 3.3 quake hit at 11.29am on Sunday.

It was centred 20km east of Upper Hutt, and had a focal depth of 25km.
