The body of slain officer Len Snee has been taken back to Hawke's Bay following a post mortem in Wellington.
A short ceremony for the 29th officer to die in the line of duty was held at his family marae at Takapau ahead of his funeral on Wednesday.
Hone Waengarangi Morris, Snee's cousin, said the family wanted to farewell him.
"He still hasn't been embalmed yet so we bring him onto the marae as he is, and our immediate hapu, Ngati Maru and our marae Rakotate have an opportunity for farewell him in our own way."
A condolence book for Snee's family has been signed by
parishioners at Napier's Anglican Cathedral.
Meanwhile, Senior Constable Grant Diver continues to improve in hospital and he's now been listed as stable.
Senior Constable Bruce Miller and civilian Leonard Holmwood both remain in a critical condition.
Holmwood's family have released a statement.
They're at his bedside in hawkes bay hospital.. and thank everyone for their support.
