A six-year-old girl has died in a quad bike accident at Glen Murray near Tuakau in the Waikato.
Ambulance Northern Communications says it was called to Thundercross Valley Bike Park just before 3pm Saturday.
Spokesman Glen Taylor says the girl was dead when paramedics arrived.
He says the girl's family is distraught and her father was at the scene when the accident happened.
The park's co-owner Nick Fowlie says the girl was riding a
child's four-wheeler quad bike when the accident happened.
Fowlie says the bike went down a steep bank and rolled on top of
her.
He says because of the size of the girl, the bike crushed her head or crushed the helmet giving her brain injuries and causing her to die at the scene.
Fowlie says there is no age limit for riding a bike at the park.
A police northern communications spokesman says police and the Department of Labour were investigating.
In another quad bike accident this afternoon, the Youthtown Trust rescue helicopter responded to a call from a forest along Poihipi Road about 8km north of Taupo.
A 38-year-old man suffered fractured ribs when he fell while quad biking with friends. The man was treated by St John paramedics and flown to Rotorua Hospital for treatment.
