An exhibition honouring yachtsman Sir Peter Blake has been officially opened at Auckland's Maritime Museum by the Prime Minister and Lady Pippa Blake.
With the America's Cup winning boat NZL 32 as its centrepiece, Blue Water Black Magic celebrates the life and legacy of Sir Peter, from his sailing achievements to his work on the environment.
"He's a New Zealander who is certainly missed but he's a New Zealander who left his mark and this is a wonderful way of demonstrating what he meant to New Zealand and what he meant to yachting around the world," says John Key.
Sir Peter's children Sarah-Jane and James unveiled the plaque to open the exhibition.
"We felt this was something Peter would support not because it celebrated his life but because it would show others his world, his stories and the causes he beleived in," says Lady Blake.
The round-the-world race winner was killed by pirates in Brazil in December 2001.
