Simon Bradwell is a ONE News reporter based in Wellington.
He graduated from the Wellington Polytechnic Journalism Course in 1993, alongside (actually slightly ahead of) his TVNZ colleague Guyon Espiner.
Simon's career started at Reuters, where he was a correspondent for three years, covering the 1995 Rugby World Cup in South Africa amongst other international stories. He then became the South Island reporter for Sunday News, during which time he covered some of the country's most famous crimes - including the murders of Ben Smart and Olivia Hope, and Kirsty Bentley.
He moved to Wellington as news editor of Stuff, before rejoining Sunday News in the capital, again covering major criminal cases like the Coral Burrows murder, and the baby Kahu Durie kidnapping, as well as writing a weekly news column.
Simon made the move from print to broadcasting in April 2005, joining TVNZ's newsroom in Wellington. He covers the crime and justice round in the capital and lists some of his highlights during his time with ONE News as:
- Covering the amazing survival story of missing diver Rob
Hewitt (for which he was a Qantas Award finalist)
- Organising a celebrity appeal for the return of the stolen
Victoria Cross medals
- Breaking the story of two young parents wrongly accused of
killing their twin babies
- Covering the Birgit Brauer, Jhia Te Tua and Tony Stanlake murder
cases
- An investigation into a Wellington supermarket that threatened to
discipline staff who spoke foreign languages
Simon's a self-confessed Rolling Stones fanatic, who added Keith as a middle name as tribute to guitarist Keith Richards. He finally got a chance to (briefly) meet some of the band when he covered their last tour here.
In his spare time Simon likes to make videos of his aspiring
professional skateboarder son. He's lived in the capital for much
of the last 32 years and considers himself an Absolutely Positively
Wellingtonian.
