The idea of a super-council for Auckland may not be a done deal, with speculation significant changes may be made to the Royal Commission's proposal.
The trio behind the Commission's findings will talk to the Prime Minister John Key on Tuesday, about what they believe should happen.
Cabinet on Monday debated the Royal Commission's findings, with concern lingering that the six local councils being proposed for Auckland don't go far enough to allow for strong community involvement in council decision making.
Local government Minister Rodney Hide is continuing to voice his concern, while Key is expected to raise the issue during his meeting on Monday.
It now looks likely that when the government releases its response to the report next week, there'll be considerable changes to the current proposal.
