The case of an Auckland actor accused of engineering his own shooting by police in July was back in court on Wednesday.

Rob Mokaraka, 36, faces charges of possession of an offensive weapon, assault with a weapon, threatening to kill and of possession of an imitation firearm to resist arrest.

The charges were laid following an incident outside his home in Point Chevalier, west of downtown Auckland, on July 27.

Mokaraka was excused from appearing in Auckland District Court when his case was called today.

He is due to reappear again next month.

He was charged after police said Mokaraka rang 111 to notify them of an armed, agitated man in the area, and then dressed up as the man.

When police arrived he allegedly advanced on them carrying a meat cleaver and two knives and was then shot once in the chest by a police officer, resulting in him being taken to hospital.
