The government won't be drawn on whether it's lining up former National Prime Minister Jenny Shipley to help run Environment Canterbury.
The regional council has been accused of not performing and is under threat of being sacked.
Labour's Christchurch Central MP Brendan Burns says Shipley is top of the list to step in.
But the Environment Minister won't confirm or deny the position.
"I'm not prepared to speculate on Jenny Shipley or on any of the other 20 names bandied around...the government at the moment is giving consideration to what is the right in terms of getting functioning properly," says Nick Smith.
Meanwhile, until the decision is made it's business as usual for the 500 staff at the council.
