A shallow, 4.1 magnitude earthquake has been felt in Manawatu.

The quake struck at 9.31pm, 10km west of Taihape. It was 4km deep.

Almost 100 people have reported feeling the quake on the GeoNet website.

It follows a series of sizable quakes in the North Island this month.

A 5.3 magnitude quake struck 30km east of Murupara early yesterday morning, while a 5.7 quake struck near Turangi last Saturday.

A 7.0 quake off Opunake on July 3 was felt across much of the country and caused items to fall from shelves.
