The Serious Fraud Office is investigating failed clothing company Lane Walker Rudkin.
The group of companies collapsed in April this year, owing Westpac about $120 million.
Serious Fraud Office chief executive Grant Liddell says the receivers claim Lane Walker Rudkin misrepresented its financial strength to Westpac in order to borrow money and would not have lent so much had they known the true position.
Liddell says the SFO has begun investigating that claim and has a large number of documents to examine.
