Burnt nuts were responsible for a fire which destroyed an adult store in Newmarket.
Eighteen fire trucks and around 80 firefighters from across Auckland battled the blaze which gutted The Den Adult Concepts store on Khyber Pass Road just before Easter.
Newmarket Business Association head Cameron Brewer says fire safety officers believe the blaze was started when a wok full of peanuts being fried in the restaurant below caught alight.
The fire quickly spread up the ventilation duct which then set fire to the wooden roof cavity, spreading to The Den.
Brewer says the store's owner is devastated but vowing to set up again in Newmarket as soon as possible.
