While politicians are best known for their decision making, they're also moonlighting as sex symbols.

Results from Durex's annual sexiest politicians survey have been released, and for some it's a case of sex appeal matching electoral success.

Prime Minister John Key dominated in the sexiness stakes, with 39% of respondents picking him as their preferred candidate in the looks department, ahead of Tauranga MP Simon Bridges (20%) and Botany MP Jami-Lee Ross (10%).

It's the third year in a row that Key has topped the poll for sexiest male politician.

The title of Sexiest Female Politician was awarded to Labour MP Jacinda Ardern (35%) who slid ahead of National counterpart Nikki Kaye (26%). Ardern also won the title in 2011, while Kaye won in 2010.

Both contested the Auckland Central electorate in the recent general election, in what was dubbed the 'Battle of the Babes'.

Kaye came out on top, winning the electorate by 717 votes.

Over half of the 1,076 New Zealanders surveyed (53%) said a candidate's sex appeal was a factor when deciding to where to place their vote.

Social Development Minister Paula Bennett was ranked as the most adventurous in the bedroom.

TV ONE co-anchor Simon Dallow took out the sexiest male media personality award, squeezing ahead of Breakfast presenter Corin Dann by just one percent.

TVNZ's Pippa Wetzell was voted as top of the female media personalities on 29%, edging out TV3's Australian Samantha Hayes 23%.

The Durex Valentine's Day Survey polled 1,076 New Zealanders between 23 January and 7 February 2012.
