Search and rescue teams from Whangarei and Hamilton are on standby, ready to join the search for a young girl still missing in Auckland.

For a second day over 100 police and volunteers will scour the Henderson neighbourhood where 2-year-old Aisling Symes disappeared late on Monday afternoon.

It has been 36 hours since she was last seen. She was last seen talking to an Asian woman with a dog on Longburn Rd.

Searchers have been focussing on a nearby creek where a child's t-shirt was found, but authorities have not confirmed the t-shirt belongs to Aisling.

A search was called off around 7.00pm on Tuesday but police are meeting first thing on Wednesday morning to decide their next step.

Police still want to hear from the Asian woman seen approaching the toddler before she disappeared.

The Asian woman seemed to be in her 30s, about 165cm tall with a medium build and long straight black hair.

She was wearing a black crew neck top, with three-quarter length sleeves, three-quarter length blue jeans, black leather sandals and black socks, and had a black and grey medium sized dog on a lead.

Police don't suspect anything sinister in Aisling's disappearance, but say their investigation will consider possible foul play as a matter of routine.

Anyone with information about Aisling or her whereabouts is asked to contact Henderson police. A 0800 number has also been set up. The number is 0800 424 75464.
