School bus rolls in Waikato

A bus carrying 21 high school students rolled into a ditch in Waikato this morning.

The bus was heading to Hamilton from Morrinsville and Te Aroha, before it crashed and rolled into a ditch on State Highway 26 alongside the Piako rail line.

Waikato police report that no injuries have been reported at this stage.

Senior Sergeant Rod Carpinter said that it is believed the accident was caused by wet weather conditions.

"Fortunately no-one was injured in the incident and the bus will be removed shortly by a recovery vehicle called in from Hamilton. The matter will now be subject to an investigation by the Commercial Vehicle Investigation Unit," Carpinter said.

A salvage vehicle is on its way to help move the bus.
