The man accused of driving a logging truck into back of a school bus appeared in court today where his case was remanded without plea.

Joe Nika Morehu, 42, appeared in the Whakatane District Court today facing charges of dangerous driving causing injury.

In September last year Morehu allegedly crashed his logging truck into the back of a schoolbus in Ruatoki, injuring 16 students.

Morehu was hospitalised following the incident.

Miharo Armstrong, lawyer for Morehu, released a statement this afternoon on behalf of his client stating they are not yet ready to enter a plea in relation to the charges.

Armstrong said they had received a great deal of information from the police investigation into the incident.

"We need to undertake a thorough review of this material before Mr Morehu will be in a position to respond to the charges," he said.

Armstrong added that his client "wishes to express that his first thoughts and concerns have always been for the children who were injured in the accident".

The case has been remanded until March 22.
