Taking a piece of Father Christmas home could prove quite costly.
The dodgy winking eye that used to belong to Auckland's Santa on Queen St is up for auction on TradeMe.
Shortly after opening, the auction had reached $780.
The Santa, which sits atop the Whitcoulls building in central Auckland, received a $100,000-plus makeover after concerns his beckoning finger and winking eye was creepy .
The man behind the new look, sculptor Damien Kutia, was given the old eye as a memento.
He says he is surprised at how much attention the eye's attracted, and the amount people are willing to pay.
Kutia plans to give some of the money from the sale to the Child Cancer Foundation.
The auction closes just after 8.30pm on Saturday.
