A man whose hand was reattached by surgeons after it was severed with a samurai sword has been remanded on bail on a charge of possessing a crowbar.
Matthew James Durham, 20, is charged with being in possession of the weapon in the hours leading up to the sword attack outside his Palmerston North home on May 31.
Durham discharged himself from Hutt Hospital just days after surgeons reattached his hand.
He appeared in Palmerston North District Court on Thursday and was remanded to reappear on August 12, the Manawatu Standard reported.
A 16-year-old boy is before the Youth Court in relation to the attack.
