If you have checked the calendar, you will know Wednesday's date is an unusual one - the 9th of the 9th, 2009.

And it's a very special day in the Chinese community too.

"Triple nine for us means lots of luck. That means for all the couples that are married today, the marriage lasts forever and ever," says World TV reporter Ling Ling Liang.

For one Auckland church, it meant putting on four weddings.

For the Chinese, numerology is hugely significant as seen with the Beijing Olympics last year, starting at 8pm on August 8, 2008.

Number nine is the second on the list of auspicious numbers because, in Mandarin, it sounds like everlasting.
