Auckland's waterfront is playing host to a giant cruise ship for the day after the Queen Elizabeth sailed into the harbour this morning.
To mark Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee, the new cruise liner has set sail around the globe from her home port of Southampton in England.
The liner reaches 21 storeys high and weighs almost 100,000 tonnes. It is a hotel-style ship with 700 private balcony cabins, 22 restaurants, cafes, bars and clubs, two swimming pools, a library, two-storey ballroom and an 800-seat theatre.
Entertainment on the ship is fashioned to the Queen's taste, including champagne afternoon tea and themed balls.
The ship, operated by the Cunard Line, is in a long line of royal ships including the RMS Queen Elizabeth, which was a troopship in World War II, Queen Elizabeth II and Queen Mary.
The liner departs Auckland at 7.45pm, heading next to Wellington and Dunedin, before sailing across the Tasman to Australia and on through Asia.
