While his visit didn't cause too much of a stir in Auckland, a few people took time out of their day to try to catch a glimpse of Prince William.
Royal visits no longer come with the same fanfare and only a dozen or so people turned out at Auckland Airport for the arrival of the second in line to the British throne.
There were no flags or photos to sign, although an Australian television crew created their own hype - handing out messages for fans to hold.
And there was no private jet for the rugby-mad prince who came in on a regular Air NZ flight, meaning some passengers were lucky enough to fly just a few seats down from him.
"I've lived in the UK for 40 years and I've never been this close to him ... it was pretty exciting," one fellow passneger told ONE News.
About 50 people, plus a large media contingent, have been following the prince around in Auckland. And while not many turned out at the airport there was definitely a presence at Eden Park where fans were keen to capture a glimpse of Prince William and some New Zealand's own royalty, such as All Blacks Richie McCaw and Dan Carter.
And the snappers finally got what they were after with the prince opting to take the front entrance this time.
After that it was out to sea where more fans were waiting to greet him at Auckland's Viaduct.
Prince William says he feels he has a lot to live up to with the standards his grandmother, the Queen, has set on her international tours.
However he says he is enjoying himself so far and it is great to be in New Zealand. And he says although he was here four-and-a-half years ago [for the Lions tour], this visit is obviously more official.
