After spending his first 24 hours on land in more than 50 days rower Shaun Quincey says he would not like to repeat his trans-Tasman crossing.

Back on land the phone has been glued to Quincey's ear with everyone wanting to know how he made it through 54 days at sea.

"I played about 650 games on solitaire on my iPod," he says.

The surf-lifesaver set off from New South Wales seven weeks ago. In his solo adventure he capsized twice, bumped into a sperm whale and hit real trouble when his water purifier broke.

Arriving on Ninety Mile Beach on Sunday he turned the crossing into a Quincey family affair.

His partner Lisa Jones says the fact that his dad made the same journey has always been a big influence on him.

"He was obviously driven by his dad, knowing that his dad did it and growing up with a story like that must have been awesome. Knowing that your dad took on a challenge like that and achieved it," she says. CHECK QUOTE

Quincey has lost 17 kgs, but not his voice.

"I found it very hard not to talk to people and being alone," he says.

Support crew member Oliver Young says Quincey likes a good chat and is making up for lost time.

"Seeing him round here with his friends and family he's just like a little kid in a lolly shop you know, he hasn't had you know interaction with people for some time so he's all guns firing," he says.

And now all his tales from the high seas could end up as a book as he has already talked to publishers about it.
