Aucklanders opposed to a motorway through Mt Albert are planning on fighting it through the courts.

The 4.5 kilometre Auckland motorway extension between Waterview and Mt Roskill will result in the demolition of 365 houses and cost $1.4 billion. It will complete the western ring route and will go from Owairaka to Waterview.

Around 300 people attended a march against the motorway on Saturday.

March organiser Margi Watson said the Waterview community was concerned about the negative impact the planned motorway will have on its environment.

"It's time to stand up and say to the government this is not an acceptable or accountable solution, It's a 1950s solution to a 21st century problem."

And Norma De Langen says the Tunnel or Nothing protest group is investigating the legal process and making submissions. She says the group is trying to line up people who will support them if it goes to a board of inquiry or the Environment Court.

De Langen says it is going to be won or lost at that point.
