Customs officers are seeing new tactics being used to try to sneak the drug P into New Zealand.

A two-week operation in Auckland has uncovered 46 kgs of pseudoephedrine , enough to create P with a street value of $7 million.

Drug investigations manager Bruce Berry says rental properties are often being used as delivery points.

He is encouraging landlords to make sure they seek adequate identification from tenants, so they are not unwittingly used in the importation of precursors.

Berry says the operation lead to seven arrests.

He says in the past three years there has been a 1,200% increase in the level of P seizures.
