People are being told to look out for toxic sea slugs across the entire Auckland region, after one was found on the shores of Manukau Harbour.
It was found on Cornwallis Beach this week.
It is being tested for the presence of tetrodotoxin - the same toxin found in sea slugs on North Shore beaches that resulted in the deaths of five dogs .
Auckland Regional Council group manager of monitoring and research Grant Barnes says there was no evidence of other sea slugs at Cornwallis when staff searched on Wednesday.
But he said that's not to say others won't wash up over the next couple of weeks.
He said recent surveys continue to show Narrow Neck and Cheltenham beaches as sea slug "hot spots", with divers finding high numbers immediately offshore.
Lower numbers of slugs were also found on other parts of the coastline throughout the North Shore and the Hauraki Gulf.
Barnes said children and pets should be very closely supervised on all Auckland beaches.
