Over 1000 Kiwis are packing their bags and leaving for Australia every week, statistics shows.
According to new data from Statistics New Zealand a record 53, 676 Kiwis fled to Australia last year and only 14,900 Aussies immigrated to New Zealand.
Labour and Greens blame the Government's economic mismanagement for the exodus.
Labour leader David Shearer says, "This is the largest number of people to depart for Australia in any calendar year since records began in 1978."
"It is an absolute indictment of this Government's failure to provide Kiwis with the opportunities they need to get ahead in their own country."
"The fact National is relying on the Canterbury re-build to rescue our economy shows it has no ideas for growth," says Shearer.
Green Party leader Dr Russel Norman says Prime Minister John Key refuses to even admit there is a crisis in manufacturing, despite the continuing job losses.
He says the Government needs to take more of an active role in creating jobs.
