Toyota New Zealand has confirmed about 60 Avensis cars in the country are part of a global recall over faulty accelerators.
After-sales general manager Paul Carroll says he expects to get individual car details this week and will contact owners as soon as the information arrives.
Toyota has recalled around eight million vehicles worldwide due to possible sudden acceleration caused by condensation that builds up in the accelerator assembly.
Carroll has sought to reassure local Avensis owners.
"It should be emphasised ... that the chances of this happening are very small. There has only been 26 cases in the whole of Europe, and of those cases there were no accidents, so it's not a big thing that they should be concerned about."
It is not known when individual parts will be available for replacement, he says.
Carroll says it will be worked out with the affected owners.
