A rare New Zealand war medal has sold for $228,000 at an auction in London.
The New Zealand Cross is one of the rarest medals in the world, with only 23 ever awarded.
This one was awarded to Thomas Adamson in 1876.
He had no children and 98 years after he died his medal was put up for auction.
The London auctioneer, Christopher Hill, said the sale price surpassed expectations.
He said there has been a huge surge in interest in medal collecting.
