A man has flown into a rage at a Wendy's burger restaurant in the Auckland suburb of Lynfield today.

He has been charged with threatening behaviour, assaulting police, disorderly behaviour, and resisting police after he flipped tables, smashed tills, and attacked a police who tried to stop him.

The attacked officer is alleged to have been picked up by the offender, described as a big man, and thrown to the floor. He may have broken his hand.

No staff member was injured but the man started smashing furniture in the store and hurled verbal abuse.

Police first on the scene struggled for around 10 minutes, saying pepper spray had no effect.
