Brownlee dismisses reports of local election delay

Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee is dismissing speculation the local body elections could be deferred in Christchurch.

There had been talk the Department of Internal Affairs had prepared letters to send to local body candidates announcing a delay.

But Earthquake recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee says that is rubbish and the elections will proceed as planned.

 Brownlee also expects Christchurch to be 95% operational by early next week

The local government elections are due to be held in October.
