An abandoned SPCA puppy has been given a new lease on life, becoming a mentor and flatmate to a wild dingo pup.
Percy, a five-month-old labrador cross, has been sent to Wellington Zoo to play role model to Wolfrick the dingo and teach him how to act like a dog.
Wellington SPCA's Nicholas Taylor has already labelled the plan a success, saying the unwanted puppy is being put to good use.
"Percy's already started to show Wolfrick how to be a dog and it's great to see," he said.
Paul Horton, from Wellington Zoo, was also confident about the idea, and said the dogs' differences were being overcome.
"With Percy as a domestic dog, he's very confident. He's slightly bigger, he's slightly older, so he knows a wee bit more about life and doesn't mind putting Wolfrick in place."
The zoo hopes to find Wolfrick a mate in a few years, at which stage a staff member will adopt Percy.
