Napier police are relying on public help to find a patched Mongrel Mob member who allegedly threatened a woman with a gun.

Detectives say they are no closer to locating 30-year-old Shannon Quinton Watene after the incident on Saturday.

He has the word "notorious" tattooed across his face and three bulldogs tattooed on his forehead.

Sergeant Geoff Strather says Watene is well known in Hawke's Bay and police are hoping someone will tip them off to his whereabouts.

He says Watene is a transient by nature and has several addresses he can hide out at in Napier, Hastings and Flaxmere.

Strather says if Watene is spotted he should not be approached as he is considered armed and dangerous.
