Public memorial planned for Margaret Mahy

Hundreds of people will be able to pay their respects to Margaret Mahy in a public service next week.

The 76-year-old passed away in Christchurch on Monday night after a short illness.

Her daughter, Penny Mahy told Newstalk ZB that the memorial will be held at the Hagley Park Dome next Wednesday and everyone is welcome to attend but seating is restricted to around 600 seats.

She also said today that she will bring her mother's body back to Governor's Bay.

The service is scheduled to start at 2pm.

The family are also dealing with the loss of Margaret Mahy's only brother, Frank, who also passed away over the weekend.
