It has been confirmed there is a problem with this year's batch of Girl Guide biscuits - but do not worry, it is not the taste.

Girl Guides has been investigating complaints the look of the biscuits is not as uniform as they would like. There have also been complaints the iconic biscuits are dryer than usual.

Chief Executive Ruth Teasdale says the problem is a teething issue with Griffins' new factory.

She says the recipe remains unchanged, but that there is however greater than usual variability in their appearance.

"Over the past 18 months Griffin's have invested over $130 million into their factory. With the unique girl guides recipe only running down this new line once a year, there have been some teething issues with this year's production," she says.

Teasdale says because the biscuits are iconic, people like to know they are going to get the same-looking product each year.

She says anybody who is not satisfied with their Girl Guide biscuits can contact Griffins for a replacement.

Furthermore, she says the biscuits are Guides' main source of fundraising so it's important people continue to buy them.

The biscuits were first sold in New Zealand in 1957 after an original recipe was developed by Cadbury Fry Hudson.

Between one million and 1.7 million packets of biscuits are sold annually with more than 40% of the sales going to the guiding group which sells them.

Really disappointed with the quality. I hadn't bought them for years and was convinced by the lady selling them that the recipe had not changed. They aren't as tasty and are pale and doughy - like they're undercooked. Apparently Griffins have converted from electric to gas for cooking... Will not buy again.

Does it matter what these taste like. The moorish recipe was changed years ago and they've never been the same since. I'm sure that condensed milk was part of the original recipe. They were so nice I bought up to 3 boxes a year so we had plenty to munch on. Don't by them anymore. Charity or not there are better biscuits to eat.

Hi, I don't buy ANY product made by Griffins, ETA or any associated business. I DO NOT support dictatorships and they DO!

Oh my goodness I stopped eating or buying them years AGO - they do NOT taste like they used to at all! How can you say they taste the same compare to the ones 30 years ago - they were yum! Once you had one you had to eat the whole pack .... not now they are yuk! Sorry I do support Girl Guides but not when they don't taste like the 'real' ones!!!

Griffins Super Wine rebranded for the Guides. If the Guide biscuits are bad then so are Super Wine. Once again profit overcomes customer satisfaction.
