Power cut hits Coromandel

About 12,500 people in the Coromandel lost power for several hours on Wednesday evening.

A fault in Powerco's network cut electricity to Tairua, Whitianga and the Coromandel township about 3.50pm, Powerco network operations manager Phil Marsh says.

Power supply to 7000 had been restored by 8pm and the remaining 5500 were expected to be up and running soon after.
