Police in Havelock North are appealing for information after a person broke into a woman's house, while she lay ill in bed.
The woman, who is recovering from spinal surgery, awoke to hear someone rifling through her house at around 9.30 Friday morning.
She managed to crawl under her bed and call police, before the intruder disappeared.
Senior Sergeant Luke Shadbolt says someone in the street or nearby area may have noticed strangers and seen behaviour out of the ordinary.
He says anyone with information should contact Hastings police.
